Valentine’s Day Luvmilk Bath & Body Haul

If you follow me on instagram or twitter, you may have seen me mention that I’ve started doing the PIIT28 program from Blogilates. After a few false starts where I realized I wasn’t quite in shape enough for daily HIIT workouts and ended up doing other programs to get ready for PIIT28, I finally managed to start for real this February.

So far I’m having a lot of fun, but man – the muscle soreness can be real, even with my beloved Vega Sport Recovery Accelerator! I finish each workout pretty sweaty and tired, so I started thinking… wouldn’t it be nice to have a nice, soothing bath after my tougher PIIT sessions?

And, you know, I’d been stalking the Luvmilk shop on Etsy for awhile… who just so happens so specialize in milk baths. And, you know, the shop had just so happened to recently add a bunch of delicious-sounding Valentine’s Day scents…

I mean, you can see where this is going, right? I decided to gift myself some goodies from Luvmilk, both for Valentine’s Day and as kind of a carrot for my continued perserverence in the PIIT28 program – you know, finish the workout, get a luxurious bath. That kind of thing!

And that’s all it took to convince myself! I did try to keep this relatively small, despite Luvmilk having sooo many yummy-sounding scents. It was a bit rough, but my package arrived yesterday and everything smells absolutely fantastic, so I think I chose well ?

Mairi’s 2016 Halloween Wishlist

I seriously can’t believe that it’s almost Halloween! I’ve been waiting for autumn for what felt like forever (the muggy, buggy, sticky summers of Central Ohio do not really get along with me…) and now that it’s finally here, it seems to be zipping by like nothing. I mean, here it is Halloween weekend, and I still haven’t published my Halloween wishlist post – so, uh, let’s do something about that, yeah?

So, I’ve selected 10 items (or… groups of items, in some cases, because I’m indecisive lol) and ranked them in a somewhat ordered fashion. If you’re curious to know what I’ve been lusting after this Halloween season, please read on to see my 2016 Halloween wishlist!

Kiyi Kiyi Soap Lip Balm Review – Lingonberry & Persian Love Cake Flavors

Another month, another lip balm review from yours truly. What can I say? I’m almost as addicted to trying out new lip balms as I am to Blade & Soul, or comic books, or skincare. It’s a definitely a thing for me. This time around, I’m reviewing two lip balms from Kiyi Kiyi Soap, a Minnesota-based brand that I found on Etsy while searching for Turkish Delight scented/flavored beauty products. I’ve mentioned before that I have a tendency to go on scent sprees where I just search for something with a specific note or flavor – cardamom, melon, cherry blossom, and now Turkish Delight.

Kiyi Kiyi Soap Lip Balms

Kiyi Kiyi Soap has a lot of unique flavors to choose from in their balm selection – this is what drew me to the shop in the first place, as mentioned above. I’d recently finished off Epically Epic Soap’s Turkish Delight lip balm and loved it, but their shop was on a break and I needed to replenish my balm supply ASAP. So when I found Kiyi Kiyi Soap’s Persian Love Cake flavor, it seemed much in the same vein:

Exotic Persian Love Cake lip balm! Rose water and sweet buttercream cupcake flavors combine in a tasty treat to nourish your lips with mango butter. Plus it’s pink!

This balm was made to recreate one of my favorite cake recipes – Persian Love Cake. It combines rose water and delicious buttercream frosting. Yum!

I’m really coming around to light rose (and floral in general) flavors in my lip products, so rosewater is pretty much exactly on target. And mixed with sugary buttercream? Um, sounds delicious.

When I discovered that they also had a Lingonberry flavor – blame the absolutely delicious Lingonberry preserve in my recent Try the World Sweden Box for getting me hooked on this one – I was totally sold. I tossed the two balms into my cart and the deal was done!

You know the drill: on the main page, click read more, blah blah.

Live Beautifully Body Indie Lip Balm Review

It’s been awhile since my last indie lip balm review, huh? Well, never fear – I have a new beloved Etsy balm brand to share with you guys.

Well, “new” may be a tad incorrect. I’ve been using this brand almost exclusively since I first discovered them in January 2015! To date, I’ve made my way fully through 6 of their balms, and am alternating two more at the moment. I’m already plotting my next order, so as you may be able to tell, this is a positive review! However, if you’re familiar with my past lip balm breakdowns, you know that we’re gonna go a little bit more in depth than that, right?

So let’s get right down to it!

AWESOME Glow Glow Balm Review

So… the AWESOME Glow Glow Balm. I received this product in my Pinkaholic Memebox, and it’s one of the products that I’ve been using pretty frequently.

glow glow balm

I briefly covered my feelings on this product in the previously mentioned unboxing post, but I figured I’d go a little more in depth since a few people seemed particularly interested in the Glow Glow Balm.

Here are the details that were given on the Memebox information card:

This ultra hydrating and soothing balm made with argan, olive, macadamia oils delivers soothing hydration wherever you need it. With its concentrated formula, a little goes a long way. It balances the moisture levels in the skin, and gives skin a healthy, glowing sheen. It can be used together with a facial cream for extra moisture and glow, and it can also be used in place of a lip balm, a hand cream, and a highlighter.

How to use: After cleansing and toning the skin, apply a small amount of balm onto the skin and massage into dry areas.

Full Size: 45g for $42

They also created this “how to use” video, so you can get a look of how it mixes with other products, looks on lips, and see all of Memebox’s ideas for different ways to use the balm:

Superbox #56 Yogurt Cosmetics Memebox Review & Unboxing

Let’s cut to the chase: yes, it’s another food-themed Memebox. I know, I have a problem!

But yogurt in cosmetics is really not unusual or new, it’s generally associated with being soothing and hydrating – which makes it a prime ingredient for winter skincare products. Many people, myself included, suffer from dryness and irritation due to winter weather, so I was able to justify buying the Superbox #56 Yogurt Cosmetics pretty easily.

first look

Here’s the official summary of this Memebox:

Yogurt is a yummy and wholesome snack, but when applied topically, you’ll see that this creamy wonder food  also has a multitude of beauty benefits!

Yogurt used as part of a beauty regimen dates back to ancient Egypt, when Cleopatra used it as a part of her daily beauty routine to maintain her youth. It contains lactic acid to dissolve dead skin cells that accumulate into the pores! Also, proteins, calcium, and vitamins prevent premature aging, brighten skin, and give the skin a naturally youthful glow!

Unlock this ancient beauty secret for your best self ever!

Whoever writes the sales copy for Memeboxes is damn good at their job, because I always end up thinking “well, that sounds like something that could definitely benefit my skin!” after almost every new box gets released. I mean, who doesn’t want youthful, glowing skin, right?

all out

So, just at a glance, we’ve got three different types of face mask, a cleanser, a moisturizer, and a lip balm set. I’m always happiest when my boxes are more skincare oriented – unless of course it’s a specifically makeup/haircare/whatever-themed box – so I’m pleased with this lineup.

Let’s get down to the unboxing – click the read more to see the individual products and my thoughts on each!

My Cute Wishlist 2 Memebox Review & Unboxing

Like so many people, one of my favorite things about Asian cosmetics is just how darn cute the packaging can be. Etude House, Tony Moly, Skinfood, It’s Skin’s Babyface line, and my personal favorite Holika Holika – tons of brands make their names with both products that are both adorable and high quality. Given how often “cute packaging” in Western cosmetics tends to mean “cheap, crappy drugstore products aimed at pre-teens”, it’s really awesome to have a way for adults with real skin and cosmetic concerns to still be able to indulge their more whimsical sides.

All that is to say, when My Cute Wishlist 2 popped up on the Memebox site? OF COURSE I grabbed it.

Here’s the official description of this Memebox:

It’s Back! We spritzed, powdered, and puckered up our way through thousands of precious darlings to bring you a box that bubbles over with cuteness!

The second edition of our My Cute Wishlist Box is loaded with darling delights that have swoon-worthy signature cheeky Korean names and gosh-darn-cute packaging. From miniature beautifying trinkets to precious pouch portables, this box full of darling beauty finds will make you bubble over with giddiness.

I’d have to say that personally, I think this box did live up to its hype! It’s definitely the box that I was most pleased with simply based on initial appearances. Obviously, as I try out individual products from all the (too many) boxes that I’ve ordered, that could change a lot, so that’s why I’m emphasizing that this is currently my favorite box just based on superficial, first appearances.

Ever since finding out about the It’s Skin Babyface line, I have been wanting… well, pretty much the entire line! I was so happy to see the trademark smiley-face-and-wings packaging looking at me from within this box! The product in the ice cream truck packaging and the happy pig box also stood out to me upon first look.

As per usual, if you want the itemized product list and my opinions on each, please click the read more!

Beauty of Skyrim: The Alchemyst’s Troll Fat Lip Balm Review

So, if you pay any attention to the little Steam widget in my footer, you’ve probably noticed that I play a lot of Skyrim. I first played the game on Xbox 360 when it first released, but after I split with my then-boyfriend (we split up the kids – I mean, we divided up the consoles and I got the PS3 while he kept the 360) I no longer had the game or console. It’s only this year that I ended up buying the game again, this time for PC, mostly because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about regarding mods.

The result? Well, as you can see, I’m pretty much sold. So now one of my favorite ways to relax and unwind is to spent some quality time with my Bosmer archer-sneakthief and her Thieves Guild posse. Or my Thalmor-member high-elf mage that drags Ondolemar all over Skyrim (including pit-stops at her likewise Thalmor-themed loft in Solitude). Or my official lore-breaking playthrough using a half-Daedra race, complete with a gigantic badass scythe and this fully-voiced and awesome Deadpool follower.

Uhm. Carried away? Carried away.

Anyhow, enough about that. I’ll probably make posts about some of my favorite mods (I already compiled a Thief mod bible on a Skyrim subreddit this month, might as well turn it into a bonafide post eventually) soon and then I can ramble more about the actual game, but back on topic…

I first searched for ‘Skyrim’ on Etsy in the hopes that I would find some of those awesome horn candle-holders, and instead I was pleasantly surprised to see way more items that I had imagined: there were people selling Skyrim-themed teas (this Skooma blend is actually my current favorite tea!), candles (not in the cool holders, sadly, but scents inspired by places like Falkreath), some perfume oils, and… lip balms!

If you remember this post, you know that I can get very srs business about my lip balms. I have big, poofy, easily dried-out lips, and fall weather started creeping in already – it’s been in the 40s when I’m out walking my dog in the late evening. Since my lips tend to be really sensitive to the cold and wind during fall and winter, I’m always looking for excellent lip balms to use during the cold months. And what could be better than lip balms inspired by a game that takes place in a cold, snowy landscape like Skyrim?!

My cutie Dunmer, may her corrupted save file rest in peace, would've totally approved.
My cutie Dunmer, may her corrupted save file rest in peace, would’ve totally approved.

The Alchemyst’s “Troll Fat Lip Balms” (so named because troll fat is an actual lootable, usable alchemical ingredient in the game) comes in two flavors:

Black Briar Mead: Honey, Black Cherry, and Cranberry (Ingredients: Coconut oil, beeswax, organic shea butter, organic cocoa butter, jojoba oil, raw honey, vitamin e, cranberry extract, honey & cherry flavors)

Winterhold Ice: Peppermint and Rosemary (Ingredients: Coconut oil, beeswax, organic shea butter, organic cocoa butter, jojoba oil, vitamin e, rosemary, peppermint essence)

I bought both, of course, because what is impulse control?

Massive Rose Rose Shop & Tester Korea Asian Beauty Haul!

Last month, both Rose Rose Shop and Tester Korea had some decent sales – and TK in particular had the coveted SU:M37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick in stock for only $3 markup over retail – so I ended up splurging big time. The boxes arrived within two days of each other, so the end result was a gigantic Asian beauty haul! Between this and my upcoming Memeboxes, I’m pretty much set with buying new skincare stuff for awhile, I think. I also included a lot of sample packs in both orders so that I could try a bunch of new items without breaking the bank (or risking a bunch of dud products), so I’ll have a lot to review in the upcoming months even if I manage to stick to my skincare no-buy plans for the rest of the year!

A few things are missing (like my OST Vitamin C serum, as I’d already opened it and forgot to pull it out of the fridge for pictures) or my Skinfood Trouble Clear Spot Patches as I’d already used up half the box by the time I decided to do this haul post. But you can still see that this was a big batch of beauty! I’m very excited as I managed to get some items that I’d really been ogling for months for really nice prices.

Let’s take a look at all the goodies after the cut!

Debaucherous Lip Balm Review: Orxata & Green Mango

When I first received my Debaucherous order, I posted some photos and initial thoughts with a promise of individual reviews soon to come. It’s been about two weeks since then, so I feel comfortable giving my opinion on the lip balms, which I’ve been using every day since they arrived.

Debaucherous Lip Balms

As I mentioned in the other post, I purchased two flavors, Orxata and Green Mango.

Orxata is a limited edition described as “Ground rice, milk, sugar and cinnamon” – it’s meant to evoke the yummy Spanish drink known as horchata/orxata. To my nose, it definitely succeeds! It’s a warm creaminess, with notes of vanilla and rice milk, and just a tad of heat from the cinnamon – not so much that you’ll end up with irritated or red lips, thank goodness. If you like sweet, food-y, dessertish scents you’ll probably love Orxata! This is an absolutely perfect fall/winter balm, in my opinion.

Green Mango, on the other hand, is all summer. The scent description for this one is “Green mangoes from the Philippines blended with lime margarita.” I picked this one hoping that it would be refreshing and not too sweet, and it turned out to be just that exactly. The mango is very green and not too ripe smelling – my problem with most “mango” scented bath & body products is that they go for such a sickly sweet note that, to my nose, it just makes me think of mangoes that have been left too long and have gone so overripe as to be… not really appetizing anymore. So I’m really happy to find a mango balm that avoids that pitfall and actually delivers a truer mango scent. The addition of the lime elevates it, giving it an extra dash of zest. Really, really loving this one – it’s my favorite of the two.

Now let’s talk about the formula! The Debaucherous Etsy shop says this about their balms:

A delightful blend that includes Virgin Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil, Cocoa Butter, Avocado Oil, Carnauba and Candelila wax and Vitamin E. Lightly sweetened.

The use of the word “includes” makes me think that this isn’t a full and precise ingredients list, I expect to avoid copycats. The owner does say elsewhere that they’re vegan, and I suppose that if you have any serious allergies you could send a message asking about their presence before you order.

The balm texture is very smooth, and it melts like buttah. No, seriously, this balm melts VERY easily – if you live anywhere with hot weather, you’ll want to be careful when applying the balm – if you apply too quickly/vigorously, you might end up with a big ol’ chunk of the balm melted off, far more than you actually need. The way around this is to only twist up just enough balm, that way you don’t risk melting off way more than you wanted just by virtue of the warm air + your lips’ natural body temperature.

Once applied, the balm is quite glossy. You can see in the image above – my lips are bare beyond a fresh application of the Orxata balm. No other added color or gloss, that’s just how the lip balm looks all on its own!

The balm doesn’t fully absorb, rather, it seems that some of the moisturizing ingredients penetrate while others sit on your lips to give shine and protection. It’s not waxy by any means – so this isn’t one of those gross “feels like a wax seal on my mouth” balms. It’s also not one of those thin balms that absorbs super fast and leaves you needing to reapply every ten minutes. There’s a happy medium here, meaning that you’ll get hydration and shine for a few hours before you need to reapply.
